Tuesday 23 May 2006

business.gov.au has been awarded the 2006 United Nations Public Service Award in the category of Application of information and communication technology (ICT) in Government: e-government.

business.gov.au is one of only three winners in this category and one of only eleven overall winners of the 2006 Awards. It is also the only award being presented to Australia.

Established in 1998, business.gov.au is the one-stop-shop for business information and advice, providing a range of practical information from starting up to growing a business. It also provides a range of business tools, such as ABN Lookup and Transaction Manager, which cuts red tape and speeds up transactions.

Over the next three years, the Australian Government is investing $27.4 million for business.gov.au, as well as an additional $29.6 million for the VANguard Initiative. In 2005, business.gov.au received 2.1 million visits, an increase of 12 per cent on the previous year.
