Do you hire independent contractors in your business? Are you unsure if you are an independent contractor or an employee? Sometimes a person’s status as an independent contractor or employee just isn’t clear cut. Before entering into a contract, it's important that you understand the differences between employees and independent contractors.

Now there is an online tool to help you understand whether the courts are more likely to consider a particular person to be a contractor or an employee. It just takes a few minutes and at the end will provide you with a report which summarises your answers and indicates whether you are more likely to be in an independent contracting or employer-employee relationship.

To use the Contractor Decision Tool visit the business.gov.au website.
