Petrina Jude's presentation on "things women do better" proved to be a lasting theme at this year's Small Business Development Conference (SBDC) in Cairns.
The contribution of women in business was visible at the conference with high numbers of female attendees and speakers. One of the things women did much better at this year's SBDC was dominate the business.gov.au Business Enterprise Centre (BEC) Australia Awards for Performance. Each award winner was a BEC managed by women:
- Best BEC Manager – Lynette Hay (Port Adelaide BEC)
- Best Metro BEC – accepted by Maria Cook (St George and Sutherland Shire BEC)
- Best Regional BEC – accepted by Vicki Brown (Small Business Centre Great Southern)
Over the next three weeks, we will be publishing feature stories about each of these accomplished women on our facebook fan page.
A new story will be published each Friday where these women will talk about their achievements, offer advice for business owners, and comment on the unique challenges and advantages women face in business.
This week's story features Maria Cook and Lara Kilborn from the St George and Sutherland Shire BEC, who won the best Metro BEC award.
"Women are naturally better networkers and thrive in environments that value personal relationships and linkages," Maria said.
