Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) Program
CRC Projects (CRC-P) Round 8
The Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, and the Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, the Hon Karen Andrews MP announced the opening of the CRC-P Round 8 on 13 August 2019. Round 8 includes $20 million in funding for projects that address reducing plastic waste and boosting plastics recycling and over $10 million for projects developing Australia's critical minerals capability. The round is also open to all other industry sectors.

CRC Projects (CRC-P) Round 7
On 9 August 2019, the Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, the Hon Karen Andrews MP and the Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Senator the Hon Matt Canavan, announced the outcomes of CRC Projects Round 7. Whilst Round 7 was open to all industry sectors it included $20 million in funding for CRC Projects with a specific focus on critical minerals. The Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) Program supports industry-led collaborations between industry, researchers and the community. It’s a proven model for linking researchers with industry to focus on research and development towards use and commercialisation.
It aims to:
- improve the competitiveness, productivity and sustainability of Australian industries, especially where Australia has a competitive strength and in line with government priorities
- foster high quality research to solve industry-identified problems through industry-led and outcome-focused collaborative research partnerships between industry entities and research organisations
- encourage and facilitate small and medium enterprise (SME) participation in collaborative research.
The overarching CRC Program offers support to industry, research and the community through two elements:
- Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) grants – to support medium to long term industry-led collaborative research, up to 10 years.
- Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-P) grants – to support short term, industry-led collaborative research, up to 3 years.
Innovation and Science Australia and its CRC Advisory Committee, provide strategic oversight of the Program. They also provide advice to the Minister on matters including application assessments and recommendations in relation to selection processes.
Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) grants
CRC grants provide successful applicants with access to grant funds for up to 10 years for collaborations from industry, research and community sectors to solve industry problems and improve the competitiveness, productivity and sustainability of the Australian industries.
A CRC must have at least one Australian industry entity and one Australian research organisation.

Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-P) grants
Successful CRC-P grant applicants are provided grant funds for up to three years for collaborations from industry, research and community sectors to develop important new technologies, products and services.
CRC-Ps must have at least:
- two Australian industry organisations including at least one small or medium-sized enterprise (SME)
- one Australian research organisation.

Industry Growth Centres
CRCs, CRC-Ps and Industry Growth Centres work together to be a catalyst for increased and more productive industry-research engagement. Growth Centres are in a prime position to identify emerging research challenges that are relevant to industry and encourage collaboration with the right industry players.
