Sector Director


Ashley is the Sector Director for Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals.

Ashley has a PhD in chemistry and he has worked in the biomedical Industry for around 25 years in the UK, USA and Australia. During this time Ashley has held senior roles in new product development, business development and licensing.

Ashley has a deep understanding of the commercialisation of biomedical innovation gained from over ten years overseeing GlaxoSmithKline’s engagement with Australian SMEs and publically funded research organisations, working with Australian SMEs and as the National Executive with responsibility for the medical sector at the Manufacturing Excellence Taskforce Australia (META).

Ashley is passionate about the Australian Medical Technology and Pharmaceuticals industry and has served on a number of boards including academic, NFPs, Cooperative Research Centres and industry associations.

David has over two decades of multinational work experience in increasingly senior strategy and communications roles. His broad experience includes leadership in commercial marketing, strategy, risk management, government affairs, health economics, business planning and corporate affairs. He is a trusted thought leader and strategist. Core strengths include C-suite stakeholder engagement across regulators, payors, industry opinion leaders, academic think tanks; economic analysis and commercial tactical planning.

David’s healthcare areas of experience include cardiology, oncology, genetic testing, immunology, neuroscience, orthopaedics, nephrology, infection control, osteoporosis, pain management, cold relief and smoking cessation. He has worked in both a multinational global head office as well as Australia and has been involved in commercial dealings with hospitals, allied health clinics, government and insurers. He has substantial experience in medical devices and the pharmaceutical industry - for example he previously held roles at Pfizer, Astra Zeneca and Glaxo Smith Kline. With a strong history of proactively building strategic partnerships with healthcare stakeholders, David is well placed to advise on business growth strategies.

David holds a Bachelor of Commerce, and Masters of Commerce, from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Technology, Sydney. He is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

He specialises in business strategy development and implementation, business development, sales and marketing; strategic service design, organisational innovation, and continuous improvement. He is experienced in a number of industries including construction, energy efficiency, recycling, sustainable housing, engineering, environmental, software development, and consulting. Ken has achieved significant success in assisting companies in emerging markets and with high growth potential.
