Small Business COVID-19 Support Grant NSW

The Small Business Support Grant provides small businesses and non-profits in targeted industries severely affected by COVID-19 with funding to help them survive.


What do you get?

Funding of up to $10,000.

Who is this for?

Eligible small NSW businesses and non-profit organisations.


Funding is available for eligible businesses and non-profits that have been subject to closure or are highly impacted by NSW government health directions in relation to COVID-19 in the following industries:

  • retail trade (excluding food retailing)
  • accommodation and food service 
  • rental, hiring and real estate services 
  • administrative and support services 
  • arts and recreation services
  • information media and telecommunications
  • transport
  • education and training
  • wholesale trade

Small businesses not in one of the above industries may still apply if they can demonstrate evidence of a decline in turnover of 75% compared to the equivalent period (of at least 2 weeks) in 2019.

Funding will be provided for businesses to meet unavoidable business expenses such as:

  • utilities
  • council rates
  • telecommunication charges
  • insurance payments
  • professional advice
  • wages for an employee not eligible for JobKeeper payments
  • franchise fees
  • paying creditors, if your business is closing

What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible, small businesses and non-profit organisations must:

  • have between 1-19 employees and a turnover of more than $75,000
  • have total Australian wages below the NSW Government 2019-20 payroll tax threshold of $900,000 
  • have an Australian business number (ABN) as at 1 March 2020, be based in NSW and employ staff as at 1 March 2020 
  • have experienced at least 75% decline in turnover compared to the same two-week period in 2019 as a result of by the Public Health (COVID-19 Restrictions on Gathering and Movement) Order 2020 issued on 30 March 2020
  • have unavoidable business costs not otherwise the subject of other NSW and Commonwealth Government financial assistance measures
