The Sponsorship Grants for Student Science Engagement and International Competitions is available to schools and other organisations. These grants help organisations to sponsor students to take part in STEM events, activities and competitions.

Overview


Sponsorship Grants for Student Science Engagement and International Competitions supports Australian students under the age of 18 to take part in STEM related events, activities and competitions in Australia and overseas.

Each year, there is up to:

  • $1 million for participation in STEM engagement activities and events in Australia or overseas
  • $600,000 for participation in international STEM competitions outside Australia

The grant is for up to 100% of eligible project costs.

  • The minimum grant amount is $1000.
  • The maximum grant amount is $20,000.

The maximum grant amount per student is:

  • $1500 for STEM events or activities within Australia
  • $5000 for international STEM events or activities

Eligibility


What are the eligibility criteria?

To apply, you must have an Australian business number (ABN) and be one of the following:

  • a primary or secondary school, registered with a state or territory authority
  • an incorporated not-for-profit organisation
  • an entity incorporated in Australia

If you are a government school and don't have your own ABN, you may apply using your state or territory department’s ABN.

Your organisation must apply on behalf of a student or group of students under 18 years old (at the time of application) to attend a specific STEM activity.

You’ll need confirmation from your managing board, school principal or chief executive officer (or equivalent) that your organisation:

  • supports the student/s attendance at the STEM activity
  • can meet any costs of student participation not covered by the grant
  • expects the student to attend the STEM activity if you get the grant

Inspiring Australia – Science Engagement Programme


This grant is part of the Inspiring Australia – Science Engagement Programme. This aims to:

  • engage the wider Australian community with the sciences, including through major activities like National Science Week
  • support public recognition, national awareness and pride in our best scientists and innovators
  • effectively communicate key science issues, between scientists, the general public and Australian decision makers in business and government
  • build skills and capability in STEM and digital literacy, in Australian schools and communities
