What the new labels look like

Each new label will be specific to your food product.

Grown, produced or made in Australia

For products grown, produced or made in Australia the new labels will have:

  • the kangaroo in a triangle symbol
  • a bar chart showing the percentage of Australian ingredients and
  • text stating:
    • ‘grown in’ or ‘product of’ Australia or
    • ‘made in’ and the percentage of Australian ingredients.

  • a bar chart showing the percentage of Australian ingredients and
  • text stating:

Packed in Australia

Where food from different countries is packed in Australia without substantial transformation (that is, any imported food only undergoes packaging or minor processes in Australia, such as sorting, slicing, canning, reconstitution or crumbing), the new labels will have:

  • a bar chart indicating the proportion of Australian ingredients and
  • text stating ‘Packed in Australia’ and indicating the proportion of Australian ingredients.

If the food in the package is grown, produced or made in a single overseas country (including food substantially transformed in a single country using ingredients from other countries) and is packed in Australia, either:

  • the food can be labelled in the same way as an imported product by stating where the food was grown, produced or made
  • in addition to stating where the food was grown, produced or made, the label can include an added statement that the food was ‘Packed in Australia’ – but if so, it must include a bar chart and text indicating the proportion of Australian ingredients.
