Overview
The program aims to
- increase investment in advanced manufacturing activities in Victoria and South Australia
- help transition Australia’s manufacturing sector from traditional, heavy industrial processes to knowledge-based manufacturing of higher value products
- improve the overall efficiency and competitiveness of firms and the broader economy
The projects will achieve these aims using:
- advanced technologies
- design and engineering excellence
- innovative business processes
The grant funding available is:
- between $500,000 and $2.5 million
- for up to one third of eligible project costs
Your project must:
- have a minimum project cost of $1.5 million
- be completed by 30 June 2020
Eligibility
What are the eligibility criteria?
To be eligible you must:
- be a small or medium enterprise (SME), with up to 199 full time equivalent employees
- be an entity incorporated in Australia
- have an Australian business number (ABN)
- be registered for the goods and services tax (GST)
You must also engage in trading activities that either:
- form a significant proportion of your overall activities
- are a substantial and not peripheral activity of the corporation
Your project must:
- be undertaken in Victoria or South Australia or both
- have at least $1.5 million in eligible expenditure
- include buying, constructing, installing or commissioning manufacturing capital equipment
- result in commercial production-ready manufacturing

You are not eligible to apply if you are:
- income tax exempt
- an individual
- a partnership
- a trust (however, an incorporated trustee may apply on behalf of a trust)
- a Commonwealth, state or local government agency or body (including government business enterprises)
To be competitive you must score highly against all of the following merit criteria:
- Merit criterion 1: The advanced manufacturing benefits for your business and the broader economy (40 points).
- Merit criterion 2: Impact of grant funding on your project (20 points).
- Merit criterion 3: Your capacity, capability and resources to deliver the project (40 points).

We assess your application against the eligibility criteria and then against the merit criteria. Only eligible applications will proceed to the merit assessment stage.
An independent committee will assess each application against the merit criteria and compare it to other eligible applications in the funding round. It will recommend which projects to fund.
You must supply enough detail and supporting evidence for your application, relative to the project size, complexity and grant amount requested. You should define, quantify and provide evidence to support your answers.
The Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science will make the final decision on which projects to fund.
If your application is successful, you’ll receive a written offer.
If you accept the offer, you’ll then enter into a grant agreement with the Commonwealth. The grant agreement will contain the schedule of payments.
We’ll make an initial payment when we sign (execute) the agreement.
We’ll then make subsequent payments:
- in arrears after we have received and accepted a satisfactory milestone report
- based on your actual eligible expenditure
Payments will be made by direct credit into your nominated bank account.
If you are unsuccessful, we’ll notify you in writing and give you the chance to discuss the outcome with us.
