Business Growth Grants

If you’ve received one of our Business Management services, you can apply for a Business Growth Grant. With the grant you can engage external expertise to implement the recommendations in your Business Management plan.


The guidelines for this services have recently changed. You should review the Business Management – Grant opportunity guidelines before applying. 

Application detail:

You must submit your application within 1 year of receiving your plan. Unless you are a northern Australian tourism business, in which case you must apply within 1 year or by 31 December 2019, whichever occurs first.


What do you get?

Funding of between $2500 (ex GST) and $20,000 (ex GST), covering up to 50% of eligible project costs.

Who is this for?

Businesses that have received a plan under one of our Business Management services.


Business Growth Grants are a part of Business Management, which in turn is an element of the Entrepreneurs’ Programme.

Business Management provides access to a national network of skilled business advisers and facilitators. They’ll work with you to improve your business practices, become more competitive, and take advantage of growth opportunities.

The Business Growth Grant will help you improve specific business areas that your adviser/facilitator recommended in your plan. You must have received a plan before you can apply for a Business Growth Grant.

You must use the grant to improve the ability and skills of your business to trade. For instance, you can engage external experts to help implement recommendations from the plan. You can't use it to fix problems that are part of the normal running of your business.

You can get up to 50% of eligible project costs. The minimum grant amount is $2500 (excluding GST). The maximum amount is $20,000 (excluding GST).

The grant is for 1 year. For each business management service you receive, you can only apply once for this grant. You can use the grant to implement some or all of the recommendations in your action plan.


What are the eligibility criteria?

You must have received a completed plan from one of the following services:

You must apply within 1 year of receiving the completed plan (unless otherwise agreed by the program delegate).

Your project must:

  • only include eligible activities
  • have at least $5000 in total, eligible project costs
  • not have started

Eligible activities must:

  • link to an area of the business as specified in your plan
  • give you new abilities to trade in Australia and other countries
  • engage services outside of your business

How do you apply?

Submit your application using our online portal.

The portal allows you to apply for and manage a grant or service in a secure, online environment. You’ll need to sign in or set up an account.

You may apply for the grant at any time within 1 year of receiving your completed plan unless you’re a tourism business in northern Australia, in which case you must apply by 31 December 2019.

Applications can be started about 48 hours after you have received your plan from your adviser. If the application form it is not available when you sign in, please contact us for help.

How we pay the grant

Your grant agreement will state the:

  • maximum grant amount we’ll pay
  • share of eligible costs covered by the grant
  • financial contribution you or a third party will need to make

If you incur extra costs you must meet them yourself.

We’ll pay you 100% of the grant at the end of the grant period. You’ll need to submit an end-of-project report that shows that you’ve completed the project.

You can submit your end-of-project report before the end of the 1 year grant period. Should there be enough funding available at that time, we may give you an earlier payment.

If your project cost less to complete, we’ll adjust your payment.

  • engage with researchers
  • foster innovation
  • encourage commercialisation of novel products, processes or services
