Protecting National Historic Sites 2017-18

The Protecting National Historic Sites program aims to maintain, protect and conserve places on Australia’s National Heritage List. Its specifically targets places that are recognised for their historic values.

What do you get?

Grants between $25,000 and $250,000, covering up to 80% of project costs.

Who is this for?

A site owner of a place on Australia's National Heritage List. Or someone who has the support of the site owner.

As part of the Australian Government’s plan for a cleaner environment, this program supports projects that will protect targeted places on Australia’s National Heritage List.

We look for projects that will:

  • implement activities identified in an existing conservation management plan
  • develop a new or revised conservation management plan
  • implement activities that align with the strategies and priorities for the target place, if there is no conservation management plan
  • enhance the Australian public’s understanding or engagement with the place
  • enhance the Australian public’s physical access to the place

Only target places listed in appendix B of the grant opportunity guidelines are eligible for this program.

To be eligible you must either:

  • be a site owner of one of the target places
  • have the support of the site owner of one of the target places

You must have an Australian business number (ABN), unless you are not entitled to an ABN. Information regarding who is entitled to an ABN is available on the ATO website.
