When do I have to pay GST?
Goods and services tax (GST) is not business structure specific, but is instead determined by the business’s financial turnover and certain activities, for example, if you want to claim fuel tax credits.
Sole trader and company
If your annual turnover is more than $75,000 or more, you’ll have to register for GST and pay it. If you’re not sure if your business is going to make that much money, it’s optional to register—but you need to keep a keen eye on your turnover and register if your turnover is $75,000 or more.
You must also register for GST if you:
- want to claim fuel tax credits for your business
- provide taxi travel.
- Check out the Australian Taxation Office's website for more infomation on GST.
