Australia-China Science and Research Fund Joint Research Centres (ACSRF JRC)

The Australia-China Science and Research Fund supports joint research centres with China. You can get a grant of up to $1 million to do research in a priority area.


What do you get?

A grant of up to $1 million to participate in joint research projects with China.

Who is this for?

An Australian organisation doing a research project with China in a priority area. You must have a Chinese partner who is applying through the corresponding Chinese system.


The Australia-China Science and Research Fund (ACSRF) supports activities undertaken through joint research centres. These virtual centres link Australian and Chinese research institutions doing research in a priority area.

Grants are for up to:

  • $1 million
  • 100% of eligible project costs

The maximum grant period is 3 years.

Priority areas

The priority areas for Round 3 of the ACSRF Joint Research Centres are:

Advanced manufacturing

  • Astronomy related technology, including big data.
  • New materials in manufacturing.
  • Cross-cutting technologies that will de-risk, scale up, and add value to manufactured products.

Medical technologies and pharmaceuticals

  • Effective technologies for individuals to manage their own health care.
  • Better models of health care and services.

Resources and energy

  • Low emission energy production from fossil fuels and other sources.
  • New clean energy sources and storage technologies and demand response technologies that are efficient, cost-effective and reliable.


What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible you must:

  • have an Australian business number (ABN)
  • be registered for goods and services tax (GST)

Your organisation must also be one of the following:

  • a company incorporated in Australia
  • an incorporated not-for-profit company
  • a publicly funded research organisation (see Appendix A in the guidelines)
  • a Cooperative Research Centre
  • another Australian incorporated entity

You must also have:

  • a Chinese partner who is submitting a corresponding application to the relevant Chinese organisation
  • an Australian end user or industry partner who can apply the research outcomes
