The Australia-India Strategic Research Fund supports collaborative research projects between Australia and India. You can apply for a grant of up to $1,000,000 for research projects that benefit Australia and India.

Who is this for?

An Australian organisation doing a research project with India in a priority area. You must have an Indian partner who is applying through the corresponding Indian system.

Overview


The Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF) provides grants for collaborative research projects with Indian partners. Your project must involve research in a priority area and should benefit both Australia and India.

  • The minimum grant amount is $500,000.
  • The maximum grant amount is $1,000,000.
  • You must complete your project by 30 June 2023.

Your lead organisation may submit a maximum of 2 applications:

  • one where you have an Indian partner applying to India’s Department of Science and Technology (under the Science and Technology Fund)
  • one where you have an Indian partner applying to India’s Department of Biotechnology (under the Biotechnology Fund)

Priority areas

The priority areas for Round 12 of the AISRF are:

Indo-Australian Science and Technology Fund

  • Climate Change mitigation and adaptation
  • Food processing, storage and distribution
  • Mining safety and efficiency

Indo-Australian Biotechnology Fund

  • Cancer therapeutics/theranostics
  • Genomics and precision medicine
  • Pest-resistant crops

Eligibility


What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible you must have an Australian business number (ABN).

Your organisation must also be one of the following:

  • a company incorporated in Australia
  • an incorporated not-for-profit organisation
  • a publicly funded research organisation (see Appendix A in the guidelines)
  • a Cooperative Research Centre
  • another Australian incorporated entity

You must also have an Indian partner who has submitted, or is submitting, a corresponding application to either:

  • India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST)
  • India’s Department of Biotechnology (DBT)
