Grants helping to develop clever business ideas
Twenty-three small and medium businesses will share in $2.27 million of Australian Government grants to demonstrate the feasibility of projects with a focus on improving the natural environment.
Business Research and Innovation Initiative (BRII) – Priority Sectors Round
Each time the Business Research and Innovation Initiative opens, we detail up to 5 challenges that government currently faces in policy and service delivery areas. The grant gives you the opportunity to solve these challenges using innovative approaches.
What do you get?
Up to $100,000 to conduct a feasibility study, and if successful, up to $1 million to develop a proof of concept. You will retain intellectual property rights and the right to sell your product or solution in domestic and global markets.
Who is this for?
Small to medium sized enterprises (with a turnover of less than $20 Million) interested in grant funding to develop innovative solutions for government policy and service delivery challenges.

Eligibility
What are the eligibility criteria?
To be eligible you must:
- have an Australian business number (ABN)
- have a turnover of less than $20 million for each of the last three years including any related bodies corporate, OR, if the entity is controlled by an Australian university or public sector research organisation, have an individual turnover of less than $20 Million for the last three years.
and be one of the following entities:
- an entity, incorporated in Australia
- an incorporated trustee on behalf of a trust
- an individual or partnership, provided you agree to form a company incorporated in Australia to enter into a grant agreement.
Joint applications are acceptable, provided you have a lead organisation who is the main driver of the project and is eligible to apply.
