Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) National provides telephone interpreters 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can use this service (from the Department of Home Affairs) from anywhere in Australia for the cost of a local call on 13 14 50.

National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) can help you find a translator or interpreter who is accredited or recognised by NAATI. You can search their online directory or call NAATI on 1300 557 470 (in Australia only).

Government assistance in other languages


Department of Human Services information in other languages – the Department of Human Services provides translations of many of their online publications, including information:

  • for newly arrived migrants
  • for part-time and casual workers
  • about social security agreements between Australia and various countries
  • about payments and services

Department of Home Affairs interpreter and translation services – the Department of Home Affairs provides free interpreter and translation services to confidentially help you apply for payments and services.

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) information in other languages – the ATO provides online publications to help you understand tax in Australia. Versions are available in Arabic, Assyrian, Auslan, Burmese, Chinese, Croatian, Dari, Dinka, Farsi, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Karen, Khmer, Korean, Macedonian, Russian, Serbian, Somali, Spanish, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese.
