Overview

A CDIC Capability Improvement Grant reimburses you for up to half of the cost of engaging a consultant or expert to implement the recommendations provided in your CDIC advisory or facilitation services report, including undertaking any recommended training.

The CDIC will provide up to $3 million in Capability Improvement Grants each year. The exact amount of funding available in any year will take into account advice from the CDIC Advisory Board.

Grants of up to $250,000 are available. The minimum grant amount is $5,000.

There is no limit to the number of grants a business can receive over the life of the CDIC, but total funding is capped at $250,000 per grantee in a three year period.

Eligibility criteria

As part of an advisory or facilitation service your business adviser may make specific business capability improvement recommendations that are eligible for a Capability Improvement Grant.

Capability Improvement Grants are only available where the business adviser or facilitator has confirmed a direct link between the improvements to be funded and the Defence industrial priorities.

To be eligible you must:

  • apply within 12 months of receiving a CDIC advisory or facilitation service recommendation

    or

    apply for funding to continue a longer qualification such as a university degree which has previously commenced through a Capability Improvement Grant and takes more than 12 months to complete

  • be implementing recommendations identified in a report provided by a business adviser or facilitator
  • be able to fund your share of the cost of engaging a consultant or expert not met by the grant.

  • strategic business issues
  • human resources issues
  • internal systems
  • production and operational systems
  • marketing, branding and communication
  • financial management systems
  • exploring new markets and market intelligence
  • environmental sustainability
  • product and service development
  • mentoring/coaching
  • skills and training.

How to apply

To apply for a grant, complete the online application.

You will need to:

  • indicate which of the capability improvement recommendations you would like to implement
  • provide quotes from your preferred providers.

We may not accept your application, or we may ask you to provide more information, if:

  • the proposal is not in line with the recommendations made in your business adviser or facilitators report
  • there are concerns about the quality of the proposed consultant or project
  • a conflict of interest exists
  • the improvements are ineligible
  • the proposal does not represent value for money.

The delegate may partially support or reject grant applications where the above issues are not rectified.

If your application is successful

If you are successful, you will need to accept a grant agreement with the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science.

The grant agreement requires you to report on your completed activities.
