The continuity plan section - Writing an emergency management plan
In the continuity section of your emergency management plan, you should include:
Risk management table
Detail the risks to your business and any contingencies. Risks can include drought, storms, floods, fires, pandemic, terrorism, theft, data attacks, and even high staff turnover.
For each risk, list the: Business risk, impact, likelihood, mitigation strategy and contingency plan.
Critical business area analysis table
Identify and list the critical areas of your business (for example: product refrigeration process) and the ways you can minimise or mitigate any failures.
Include: Rank, critical business areas, impact if failed and current protection strategies.
Scenario planning tables
Once you have completed your critical business areas table and ranked them, complete a more detailed scenario based on each of your top three critical business areas in the tables provided.
Include: Critical failure, background, impact to business, immediate actions, secondary actions, responsibilities and resources needed.
Current insurance table
What insurance policies do you currently hold to cover your business risks?
Include: Insurance type, policy coverage, policy exclusions, insurance company and contact, last review date and payments due.
Property and infrastructure
What have you done to make your property infrastructure less vulnerable to damage? Is your property secured with alarms, security personnel or video surveillance from unlawful entry? Do you have fire retardant or flood resistant building materials? Are leaf litter, grass and gutters maintained regularly to minimise fire risk?
Temporary office accommodation table
Identify temporary office accommodation you can quickly access in an emergency situation. Consider attaching a map of your accommodation options to the back of your plan.
Include: Rank, type, address, equipment available and resources needed.
Business continuity strategies
What other strategies will you consider to help maintain business as usual practices? Have you considered a virtual office service (which offers telephone answering services, mail forwarding, remote secretarial services, and more), an e-commerce website or an online auction or e-marketplace shopfront?

Key personnel training table
List your current staff in the table provided and any cross-training requirements. Outline each job title, the name of the employee in the position, the expected staff turnover for the position and each employee's relevant skills or strengths. You may also like to attach a copy of their resume to the back of your plan.
Include: Job title, name, expected staff turnover, skills or strengths and cross-training requirements.

Skill retention strategies
What procedural documentation will you provide to ensure the skills of staff are maintained? Do you have an appropriate allocation of responsibilities? How are responsibilities documented and communicated to staff? What internal processes will you implement to regularly check that the current skills of staff members are still appropriate for the business?
Data security and backup strategy table
How have you protected your data and your network (for example: virus protection, secure networks & firewalls, secure passwords and data backup procedures)? Detail your backup procedures in the table provided.
Include: Data for backup, type of data, frequency of back up, backup media/service, person responsible and backup procedure steps.
